Frequently Asked Questions

  • Because it takes more than just technical know‑how to make money truly serve you—it takes alignment, clarity, and a trusted partner. As Michael Kitces highlights, most people hire advisors not for complex investing strategies, but to feel confident in decisions, to navigate change with support, and to connect their money to what truly matters in life. Clients say things like:

    • “I want someone I can trust to tell me the truth.”

    • “I don’t want to do this alone.”

At Lighthouse Planning, we listen first — understanding your life, your values, your vision — and then build your financial roadmap so that your money reflects your life, rather than the other way around. The result? A partnership rooted in trust, kindness, and clarity — exactly what people value most in an advisor.

  • Our process is life‑centered, not product‑centered. We begin with your values, then integrate your financial goals — spanning cash flow, investments, retirement, estate, and business needs — into a cohesive, personalized plan aligned as life and markets evolve.

  • Our clients are typically business owners, professional athletes and high‑earning professionals in their 30s to 50s who are doing well financially but seeking clarity, direction, and alignment If you’re navigating complexity, aiming for purpose‑driven decisions, and wanting money to support your life — yes, this is your space.

  • Many people feel uncertain or overwhelmed when facing financial decisions — this emotional gap is one of the biggest reasons people seek advice.

At Lighthouse Planning, our role is to guide you gently, clearly, and compassionately. We help you navigate uncertainty with tools, insights, and a listening partnership that builds clarity and confidence.

  • We operate as a fee‑only fiduciary—meaning we are paid only by our clients, not product vendors.

Everything is transparent and aligned with your interests. We typically use flat or annual fee structures based on complexity, so you always know what you’re paying and why.

  • Clear, proactive communication is foundational. Clients often hire advisors for the relationship — how well they listen, respond, and stay in sync matters deeply. We ensure clarity with structured check‑ins (see Seasonal Client Service calendar), timely updates, thoughtful meeting agendas, and a consistent flow of communication. You’ll always understand what’s happening and why.

  • We’re not just planners — we aim to be lifelong partners. Many clients seek someone to walk alongside through evolving life chapters. That’s what we do. From clarifying your big-picture goals to advising through transitions, we help you stay on course — with both warmth and wise strategy.

  • Yes. Many of our clients are self-employed professionals or business owners navigating the complex overlap between personal and business finances. We help bring clarity to both sides — establishing healthy cash flow systems, setting up retirement plans, evaluating tax strategies (in collaboration with your CPA), and ensuring your personal finances are protected and aligned. It's one integrated life, and we plan accordingly.

  • That’s great — we aren’t in the business of replacing relationships… but we’ve found a few things to be true.

Many financial advisors are just “investment managers”. They allocate your investment accounts and their work pretty much ends there.

That said, we love collaborating. As a financial life planner, our role is to act as your “financial quarterback,” helping you make sense of all the moving parts and ensure everyone is working toward your goals. We can coordinate with your CPA, estate attorney, or current investment custodian to make sure your strategy is cohesive, tax-aware, and values-aligned.

  • This isn’t a “set it and forget it” kind of relationship. Once your initial plan is in place, we enter into ongoing planning and implementation — meeting regularly to review progress, address new decisions, and adapt as your life evolves.

You’ll always have someone in your corner, helping you stay on track and aligned with what matters most.
